Valentine's Day Poetry Challenge
Every now and then you get the feeling that a little cherub is hiding in your backpack, under your desk or hustling after you through the passing period crowd vying for a chance to spring an arrow across your path. Every now and then you feel butterflies in your stomach, or if your a guy, every now and then you experience the same thing and embarrass yourself in front of your friends trying to act cool about it. Every now and then, there's a spring in your step because your thinking of a special someone. Every now and then...stop, wait, pause, hold it - it's February and every now and then seems just like now, now, NOW....
Valentine's Day is nearing and to get everyone into the spirit the Humanities Society is finally hooking up the literature/poetry area of the club and is having a "love" poetry challenge. So get your lines prepared...no, I don't mean the lines you say and feel ridiculious about (or should at least)...I mean take the traditional, romantic, surefire poet's approach and write your feelings down.
Please submit your poem (free verse, sonnet, haiku, etc) to ehsarts@hotmail.com, at the next meeting which is on Thursday, or if your brave enough, send it in a comment.
We at the Humanities Society realize that not all people feel that certain warmth approaching Valentines Day but instead describe an intense heat directed towards the holiday which is developed from a strong disliking of the "mushy love day". If you feel this way, then please direct your poetry as desired!
Our goal is to promote poetry!!!
A set of guidelines will be posted up soon but for now...think about it people...you should know the rules...no explicit material etc. etc. etc.
