Chalk La Strada Information

Chalk La Strada and Little Italy Precious Festa
Street painting, food, street vendors, stages and performances

Saturday Afternoon- Pre sketch of the image...I know most of you are taking SATs so don't worry about going this day because it won't take too long and there won't be much work for everyone to do. The image we have selected is a Maxfield Parrish painting of a harlequin with a musical instrument perched on a wall. A few visual art people are going to grid the sketch to prepare it for Sunday. If you would like to come just send a message. Chalk La Strada runs from 10am-5pm this day.

Sunday- We want everyone to show up and contribute to a Humanities Society work of art. If you don't want to work with the chalk, come anyway and enjoy the festivities.
We will be taking the trolley from the H Street Trolley Station to the County Center/Little Italy stop. Round trip is $4.50 per person but the Day Tripper Pass (unlimited trolley and bus transit) is $5.00 so I suggest that we go ahead and buy these just in case. The reason we will be taking the trolley is that we do not want to have kids carpooling with each other and drive downtown, if you would like to drive there yourself you can find the directions at the end of this entry but please have a parent take you. Drivers be warned, if you don't find a place to park on the street, the parking lots charge from $5-$10. I think the trolley would give the members a chance to meet and talk. We don't have a set meeting time yet, we will be calling every individual for details on Saturday, but as an estimation probably around 9am. Chalk La Strada runs from 11am-6pm on Sunday.
For those who plan on helping out with the street chalk, wear plain clothes that you wouldn't mind getting a little rugged. You will get chalk on your pants, your shirt, shoes, arms, hands, face...everypart of your body. Sure it is washable but I wouldn't risk a favorite outfit for it. Suggestion of items to bring: sunscreen, water bottle, a hat, cleaning wipes, pocket money and a camera.
If you contribute, you will recieve community service hours because the plots set for the paintings are actually sponsored by local organizations with all money being donated to community associations and a Little Italy school.

Directions to the festa...
From Mexico on Interstate 5, heading North:Exit Hawthorn/Airport exit, make left on Pacific Hwy and a right on Ash Street and park at the County Admin. bldg. Parking $5.00.
