Concert In The Park

Chula Vista's Concert In The Park
Memorial Park, Downtown Chula Vista

Who could say no to free food, some great music, and chilling with friends on the weekend? Back in August (the 28th to be exact) a few of us attended a music festival in the park in downtown Chula Vista. We layed out a blanket, talked and ate KFC while being entertained by the soothing sounds of jazz. While meandering around the park, we stumbled across free fruit provided by the organizers of the concert. I dont think I have ever had a better tasting apple. Learned that the concert was put on as part of a series of events in Chula Vista to promote health and well-being. As the band wrapped up I thought to myself, "Would there of been a better way to spend my saturday?"...no, I don't think there was. - Kristy Elbel

Titanfest, Chalk La Strada and more to come!

First of all, I'd like to thank those of you who attended yesterday's meeting, it looks like we have a great group of people in this club. If you missed out then heres the downlow.

TITANFEST!!! Titanfest is an Eastlake tradition of fixing up the school by keeping it clean and planting some fresh trees. It is on Saturday, August 27th from 8am-2pm and it is a great opportunity to gain some community service hours by helping out. If you plan on coming, please bring shovels, gloves, sunscreen and water...also, be prepared to get dirty. There will be free food and drinks for everyone who shows up and there is also a few live bands playing for us. Come support the school and have some fun. I will be posting our designated club location as soon as I find out tomorrow.

Picnic? Im sorry I made a mistake about the Fattburger music in the park performance during the meeting, its not at Eastlake, it is actually at Memorial Park (near the fountain) in Downtown Chula Vista from 4-5:30. I think it would still be a great idea to have the picnic/potluck this weekend, it would let you guys get to know each other.

Chalk La Strada For those of you who signed up for Chalk La Strada, it is on October 8th and 9th in Little Italy (Downtown SD). Chalk La Strada is a "street painting" event done in chalk that has been going on for a few years now. The first day will only be used to get the grid down and have a sketch done, most of the work will be done on sunday. The area we will be using for the piece is sponsored by a business and the money is donated to community organizations and a local school. The image that we're going to work on is on whatever we decide so if you have any suggestions please speak up. If you attend Chalk La Strada and help out with the painting, you will be recieving community service hours. From my own experience last year, I've got to say that Chalk La Strada is incredible, there's artists, musicians, singers, street vendors and tons of food. Thousands of people come to the festivities and view the work of hundreds of artists. Even if you don't regard yourself as an artist, I still strongely urge you to come because its really fun. We will be discussing the details and transportation soon, for now check out the official site http://www.chalklastrada.com/. If you weren't able to sign up at the meeting, just contact me by leaving a comment or sending an email.

T Shirts! Thanks to our advisor Mrs. Gelastopoulos, Mr. Arteaga and the Drama club, we will be getting club tshirts. Some of the AP art students and advanced art students are going to come up with some designs. If you have your own ideas or sketches please go ahead and contact me. The design can only be in black and white. We will try to sell them to you at the lowest price possible.

H.S. Rendezvous - The club forum is up and running! This is the place where all of your ideas will be heard so register and speak up. The link is on the right hand side of this blog.

See you on saturday!

The Chula Vista "Music in the Park" schedule has been changed. On the same saturday as TitanFest, the U.S. Air Force Golden West band will be playing at Eastlake community park from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Next sunday, Fattburger, a smooth jazz band will be playing in Memorial Park in downtown Chula from 4-5:30pm. Heads up

Hey everyone I just wanted to throw a few things out there as a heads up. I've been researching with April about some events going down in San Diego in the next few months so Im just going to be posting them up bit by bit till we get a full calendar running.

Next Saturday, August 27th from 8am to 2 pm is Eastlake's Titan Fest so whoever wants to pick up on some community service hours, this would be an awesome opportunity. This is a mandatory event for all clubs so don't worry about going alone because you won't be. Next week I'll find out where were going to be cleaning up, I signed up for the senior lawn just in case there might be a chance to do some painting but the location isn't permanent yet.

On Sunday, August 28th, there will be a Chula Vista "Music in the Park" show in Eastlake community park featuring the Point Loma College Jazz Band. This would be an awesome opportunity to have a "meet and eat" picnic in the park. We could have a club potluck and enjoy some nice jazz. The concert is from 5:30-7:00pm and it is free. If anyone is interested, and you would like to attend, leave a comment and we'll start planning it out.

The Humanities Society is planning to get T shirts. I'm still in the process of contacting a printer but I'm really set on getting club t shirts. If you guys have any ideas in mind for the t shirt design or any information about a good screen t company please do tell. All of you artists out there, keep in mind that we will be needing a club logo so get at those sketchbooks. I had an idea to use Da Vinci's Vitruvian man but please speak up if you have any more ideas. We will try our hardest to get the shirts at the lowest price possible.

Plan for attending a club meeting next wednesday, its not yet confirmed but it most likely will be. Well that's about it for now, the blogs still under construction and Im working on adding more links and graphics so please keep yourselves up to date because this club has a lot ahead of it.
Your Pres,
LA

LuWow 2005

LUWOW 2005
Thanks so much to everyone that contributed to the Temptu tattoo booth at Luwow. You all did an awesome job and Im so proud of our club! The grand total profit...yes profit, because many members donated supplies, was $92.50! Hehe don't worry about the fifty cents though, we're not missing anything but I must mention that a little white unicorn was involved. Even despite my apparent nervousness when I spilled half of the red paint while working on my first tattoo, we still have much of our paint left. Perhaps we could use them again sometime? We need to discuss how we would like to use our funds, perhaps for trips or maybe some big goal?
The night started off with some members setting up, we actually were able to sell tattoos even before Luwow started. Our advisor Mrs. Gelastopoulos couldn't stay for the night (no teacher wants to stay during the dancing) but she did wish us well with the booth. We were setup right in front of the entrance and were able to get customers right away. I was very pleased with the turnout, for much of the time we had three artists working simultaneously with people still waiting in line. Im glad the tattoos were such a hit even while having a face paint rivalry with another club. All of our customers seemed very pleased with their tattoos and we didn't have any disappointments. It was very encouraging to see our tattoo artists take to the skill so easily and really grab that opportunity to free hand much of the tattoos. Again I am very proud of you guys, hehe I know it was hard to concentrate with a stressed out asian girl on your backs. I hope everyone that came by or helped out enjoyed our tattoo booth.
Check out the pics....if anyone has more, comment with a link or a message so we could hook it up. Sorry I only have a few, I was pretty busy!
Our hawaiian themed workers (from left Kristy, Lauren, Hakim, Jessie)

April's first tattoo...new love of art perhaps?
Luis' special request of an EHS Titan man...course this was a lil more money than the usual...thanks Luis and Happy Belated Birthday!

Another Happy Customer

Lauren working on a very intricate panther
freehand spider for a teacher's grandson
Having his cake and eating it too.
Remember that 50 cent lil white unicorn I mentioned? Check out the grins on these faces and you oughta realize why.

For those of you who missed this opportunity, I hope that you get a chance to help out the club during Titanfest, the next Eastlake club event which is on August 27. It is a mandatory club event so the Humanities Society will be there, please come and show your support while cleaning up the school, it is also a community service event.
I will try to put up a club calendar asap, your officers will be compiling city arts exhibitions and performances. If you have any information please go ahead and submit a comment.
Thank you everyone, this was a great start for the Humanities Society. I hope all of our efforts will turn out with as much or even more enthusiasm and success as the Luwow.
Much love and thanks,
LA
